DRIVE THROUGH AT BRADS GRILL
In other local news, the Harlyn Patrol and local resident Madge Gibson captured the extent of damage incurred by Brad's Grill when a motor vehicle collided into their building in the early hours of the morning, earlier this month.
The outside of the building, as well as two cars that were parked near the restaurant, were damaged.
Luckily the inside of the restaurant was not badly affected and Brad's Grill has been trading at full capacity since the incident. Builders will commence during this week with the repair work on the outside of the building.

BASKETS OF INSPIRATION FROM ALEXINE
Alexine is back, and you might have seen her walking through the Village. Once more local resident, Celeste Fortuin, is helping her to sell her goods, especially as, upon her arrival in Cape Town, she fell ill, she is doing better now and continues to sell her woven goods.
There are some new additions to Alexine’s range - lovely handbags and small bowls, as well as the existing baskets, table mats, and rugs.
If you would like to support Alexine, and purchase some of her baskets or other goods please contact her on +27 (72) 739-9746.
Celeste would also like to thank all of those in the community who have supported Alexine over the last year!

TO STERILISE OR NOT
Is it really a question?
This month’s article will focus on sterilization. Why we should sterilise our pets, when to do it, what the procedure entails and the possible long-term effects it has on your pet.
Next month, we look into more details of what to expect when your pet goes into theatre.

WATER - WHICH IS BEST?
We are all aware that we should drink 1½ to 2 litres of water per day. The question is, which water is best.
Tap water, Bottled water, still or sparkling? And then there are the flavoured waters which taste so much better. Mineral water, surely that comes with added benefits, is that one best?
Water is the best hydration liquid, but there are quite a few varieties to choose from. Kim Hofmann explains more here.

HARFIELD VILLAGE NEEDS YOU
It is a proven fact that the environment influences our behaviour and thinking patterns. Living near, or commuting through, the visual litter that has become the norm around our railway lines, seems an appalling manner for people to start and end their working day or gain entrance into our neighbourhood.
In 2002 over 200 trees were planted starting from Harfield and continued right through to Kenilworth station, to beautify the area. In 2012 an Annual Harfield Railway Clean-up was started on 1st Sunday in May has now become a tradition. We are looking for volunteers from the community to arrive at Kenilworth Station equipped with black bags and gloves – and sturdy walking shoes (no open sandals) to join us in this worthy cause. We will all arrive at Harfield Station 2 hours later leaving a clean and neat section of railway line behind us.
Should you not be able to attend please consider donating funds for about 15 labourers employed on the day to assist with weed eating, branch chopping, collecting and delivering the full bags to the collection point.
Read more about this year's annual railway clean-up here.

REPORT BACK FROM THE HVCID
It was a huge success with over 160 vendors trading and an estimated 15 000 people that attended during the course of the day.
The HVCID committee would like to thank a number of people.
Firstly the residents of the Village. Carnival day can be frustrating with road closures and vendors set up right outside your house. We thank you for your patience and understanding and hope you enjoyed the day.
We would also like to thank all our sponsors, without them we would not have been able to cover the expenses that are incurred with organising an event like this.
A big thank you as well to all the volunteers who worked so hard on the day acting as marshals, taking photographs and selling raffle tickets.
We are balancing the books and will soon be able to advise residents of the total funds raised for our security camera initiative.

THE MAY GARDEN
Mulching is an excellent way to benefit your plants in making the most of the water you give them, as it prevents evaporation. Autumn is the perfect time for mulching as there are plenty leaves lying around and available!
Instead of throwing them out, layer them into your compost, use them on top of your garden beds or in your pots. Click here for the May plant list by Patchwork.

ED & LILLY NEED A LOVING HOME
Brace yourselves, they don't get cuter than Ed and Lilly!
These two adorable little pups are up for adoption. They are both about 4/5 months old and even though they are a small breed, they have big personalities. Both pups get on super well with other dogs and cats. It is not necessary that they are adopted together, but they must go to a home with either another dog to play with and/or someone must be home for at least part of the day. They are sterilised, vaccinated and chipped – so, ready for their new homes.
These pups are being fostered at the moment, in Rondebosch. Should you wish to meet them (but be prepared as they are irresistible). Please contact Tamsyn from the Animal Rescue Organisation on 0824117922 or [email protected] Adoptions rules apply.

STRENGTH TRAINING FOR ATHLETES
Attention runners, cyclists, athletes:
You may think that you don’t need resistance training, but you are likely wrong (or at the very least missing out). Resistance/weight training will make you stronger, which will translate into better power output - this means you can go harder and faster.
It can also strengthen up your stabilising muscles (core, hips, shoulders, etc) which may prevent you from getting injured.

THE HUMANE MOLE CONTROL
Don’t make mountains out of mole hills! In fact, if you have a mole issue, take it as a compliment - it means there’s good things going on in your soil and an abundance of earthworms.

HOW TO HANDLE A BREAK-UP WITH YOUR BOND
Every buyer goes through a “honeymoon” period when their monthly bond repayment seems a small price to pay for the pleasures of home ownership.
The romance however, can sour rapidly if that instalment becomes a burden - which can happen quite easily due to your work hours being cut back, the necessity of having to buy a new car, or an addition to the family. All of these puts new demands on your household budget. BetterLife explains more. Read more here.

PSYCHOPATHY
In today’s unequal, materialistic society where poverty is rife, psychopaths are all around us! They don’t have to be violent, criminally-minded types (although they often are!) but can be fully-functioning, self-made individuals.
