USE WINTER TO PREPARE FOR SUMMER
On colder days we tend to change our diet and exercise habits. We are not as motivated as before, to get up and exercise in the mornings; we are inclined to eat hot soups, warm stews and curries as salad just won’t cut it! Often we eat larger portions too and enjoy a glass of sherry or red wine in front of a fire! Do you see similarities? Do you tend to let yourself 'go' during the winter months?
Kim Hofmann imparts her knowledge with our readers on how to prepare our bodies for Summer during Winter months. Read more here.
THANK YOU - PRINCES PARK WORK PARTY TEAM
The Friends of Harfield Parks organised a work-party at Princes Park on the 19th of August, where they achieved a great many things such as weeding, tidying up the grass and beds.
Thank you to everyone who took part. We look forward to seeing you all at the next work party, so please take note of the dates in the events section below.
HIJACKING AWARENESS
Unfortunately, there have been 2 attempted hijackings in Rondebosch recently. Although there is no guarantee what action could prevent a hijacking, the HVCID share some common-sense techniques which could reduce the risk of such incidents to yourself or your family.

This month Lyn shares another recipe, from a precious book gifted to her from a lady who's house she sold.
IT'S TIME TO GET PLANTING
The Patchwork Group is a local group that offers planting advice as well as the opportunity to swap produce and seeds.
Spring is in the air, even though many of us are still yearning for more rain! Using buckets of water from showers and sinks has arguably become the best way to water our gardens, regardless of the season.
The temperatures are warming up and that means it's time to start planting.
BRIC-A-BRAC, UNWANTED GOODS APPEAL
Animal Rescue Organisation appeals for all your unwanted household goods and bric-a-brac. They will gladly collect, simply contact them on 0213965511 OR you can drop them off at Norgarb Properties in 2nd Avenue.
CARDIO VS WEIGHTS - THE SHOWDOWN
When people talk about starting to exercise, Dr Murray Mac Donald from the Claremont Chiropractic Health Centre genuinely gets excited.
It’s nothing weird, he just likes it when people start taking their health SERIOUSLY! And while the first step of simply committing to exercise is very important, it does tend to be followed by the question:
“Ok - now what?” Read his full article here.
DIY - UPCYCLING A CHEST OF DRAWERS
Upcycling is very “in” at the moment and with good reason too. It’s cheaper, it’s greener, and it’s fun to get a little messy and create completely unique pieces which can proudly be shown off in your home.
This month we share just how easy it is to create the most gorgeous set of ombre drawers. Click here for the full article.
Andre Ter Morshuizen is a Norgarb Properties Agent, who is passionate about what he does as well as DIY to see more of his articles please click here.
ARE YOU A LOW-RISK BORROWER
Once you’ve decided to become a homeowner, the first thing you need to do is find out whether you will be approved for a home loan – or whether lenders will consider you “high-risk”.
Before you begin your search for online listings or visiting show houses you should first work out what amount you can afford to spend, how you plan to finance your purchase, and enquire of the banks whether you will even be considered for a home loan.
Anne-Marie Bamber of BetterLife shares some tips on how to improve your prospects of being approved for a home loan. Click here to read more.

THE ANTICIPATION OF SUMMER
Having endured a few cold winter months here in Cape Town (with some much-celebrated rainy days for our depleted dams), most of us are now looking forward to enjoying long, warm, sunny Summer days with anticipation.
It’s rather interesting to consider what happens in our brains when we anticipate and/or predict the future, as it can often be more pleasurable to look forward to something than to actually experience it! Read more here.
