Your guide to what is happening in and around Harfield Village

Dear Subscriber
If you missed out on the latest newsletters you can see them here.
As we come to the end of yet another year, on behalf of the Harfield-Village Online team, we would like to thank each and every one for your support throughout the year. Special thanks to our local businesses for their generous prizes which they donated throughout the year and to our article contributors for their thoughtful and informative contributions. A huge thank you to thank our sponsor Norgarb Properties, for their support and encouragement.
Below are the local businesses who supported us so generously, please support them. "Local is Lekker."
A note from Lew Norgarb:
As the year draws to a close and 2018 fast approaches, it would be remiss of me not to pass on my thanks and gratitude to the following people:
First and foremost to our 6000 plus readers, without you there would be no newsletter! We appreciate your interest and participation and also feedback.
To our article writers. All of you have been great and we really appreciate your collective and respective wisdom sharing.
Local businesses, you guys do rock! It’s really the cherry on the top to make things local and lekker and your prizes and special offers are hugely appreciated! Keep them coming.
A humungous thanks to the HVA, (Harfield Village Association), FOHP (Friends Of Harfield Parks) and HVCID (Harfield Village CID). You all play such an important role in making Harfield Village more organised, greener and prettier, safer and a welcoming place that we residents are proud to call home.
Furthermore you mostly do this without financial compensation and out of your own love and passion for the area. So on behalf of the entire business and residential community we thank you and your teams for this dedicated effort. Lastly we sincerely hope your collective security camera fund raising initiatives go well and we at Norgarb Properties endeavour to support this drive both financially and in terms of any exposure we can offer to our clients and the community at large on your behalf.
Also thank you to Lyn Staples and Andre Ter Morshuizen from Norgarb who take the time to submit recipes and DIY or handy tips each month, we hope our readers enjoy it and these things don’t go unnoticed.
Then to Symantha, our producer of this mailer. Sym, you have to put up with so much and are pushed beyond the point of pleasure with last minute changes and deadlines. Especially being a mother of a baby and now with another bun in the oven about to pop, so on behalf of all our readers and us at Norgarb Properties, we thank you for your tireless efforts to bring us this mailer each and every month.
From the Norgarb team we would like to wish all our loyal customers and our readers a safe, relaxing, fun and peaceful holiday and we look forward to seeing you again in the new year.
On the 7th of December, the City of Cape Town released a statement by Mayor Patricia de Lille informing the public on the latest measures that the City is taking towards the water crisis.
She goes on to say that "We can only avoid Day Zero if we all work together by saving water while the City works on additional supply projects. This team effort will see us beat this drought".
The Institute of Estate Agents of South Africa [Western Cape] has received numerous complaints regarding local real estate agents. We would therefore like to clarify the following:
Once the new Property Practioners Bill is enacted, [possibly mid-2018] no protection will be offered to anyone utilising the services of an unregistered agent/attorney. The public are urged to only buy/sell/rent via a registered agent. Commission is refundable in the case of an agency or the agent not having a valid FFC (fidelity fund certificate).
The public should ensure that their agent is listed on the EAAB website and has a current VALID FFC before doing business with them. This includes rental or sales contracts, mandates and deposits. Very soon the onus will soon be put on the public to ensure that they only deal with estate agent/ agency/attorney offering a real estate service:
  • If they are registered with the Estate Agency Affairs Board [EAAB]
  • Hold a valid Fidelity Fund Certificate - details are searchable on
Estate agents/ agencies & attorneys offering a real estate service are required to renew their registrations annually and pay into the Estate Agents’ Fidelity Fund which protects the public against any losses due the actions of a property practioner [Agent or Principal].
