Livingstone School

Livingstone High School in Claremont was established 90 years ago, after civil groups joined forces to form a secondary school for children of colour. The school opened its doors on 26 February 1926 It was founded by Abdullah Abdurahman and allowed many children, oppressed under apartheid, the opportunity to further their education where there were none. Back then, there were no schools which offered primary or secondary education to so-called “non-white” pupils and churches and mosques took it upon themselves to provide schooling.
