What is it, how does it spread and how do we treat it?
Ringworm is not caused by a ‘worm’ but is a fungal infection of the superficial layers of skin, hair and nails. It is caused by a specific group of fungi known as the dermatophytes.

There are various types of dermatophytes, the most common is Microsporum Canis which is spread between animals and from animal to human causing ringworm in cats, dogs and humans. Kenilwoth Vet explains more here.
Easter has become a time of overindulgence with stores stocking shelves and shelves of Easter treat options. We all know we can have the occasional treat but shouldn't overdo it. Why do we continue buying too many treats and overindulging?
Kim Hoffman shares on how to make delicious, enjoyable homemade Easter treats. Click here for her ideas and recipes.
The environment has been proven to influence our behaviour and thinking patterns and living near or commuting through the visual rubbish bin, that has become the norm for our railway line, seems a poor way for people to start and end their working day or gain entrance into our neighbourhood.
In 2002 over 200 trees were planted from Harfield right through to Kenilworth station, to beautify the area. And in 2012 what has now become an Annual Harfield Railway Clean-up was started on the 1st Sunday in May.
The Friends of Harfield Parks are looking for volunteers from the community to arrive at Kenilworth Station armed with black bags and gloves – and sturdy walking shoes, no open sandals to join us for this worthy cause. We will all arrive at Harfield Station 2 hours later leaving behind a clean and neat section of railway line.
Should you not be able to attend please consider donating funds for about 15 labourers employed on the day to assist with weed eating, branch chopping, collecting and delivering the bags to the collection point.

Having security measures in place is not enough! It is imperative that you have a ‘’back up’’ plan should your security measures fail. Take time and sit down with your family, discuss this important aspect of home security and plan a simple routine to secure your home.
Because home safety should be one of your top priorities, HVCID (Harfield Village Community Improvement District) shares 10 ideas that you should do to help secure your home.
This month Lyn Staples, the Norgarb Properties agent with the winning recipe shares a tip that she heard on Cape Talk radio station. The caller stated that it was absolutely delicious.
Cover your fillet steak with marmite and then add either dry or moist mustard. Place in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
It is still possible to grow your own food, even with under 50L per person per day. It just means growing in smaller quantities and to take better care of what we're planting and when. Going against the natural cycles and seasons uses more resources, including water.

First-time buyers typically need to save for at least three years to afford the deposit on a home. With the VAT and fuel price increases announced in this year’s Budget it is going to make it even more difficult for first-time home owners.

“And as home prices continue to rise, they may feel like they are never going to afford to buy a home especially since they will also need cash to pay bond registration, legal and transfer fees,” says Rudi Botha, CEO of BetterBond, SA’s biggest bond originator. BetterLife explains more here.

Seasoned Capetonians know that the only way to survive our temperamental weather is by dressing in layers.
