The Friends of Harfield Parks (FOHP) is a community group whose main objective is to maintain and improve the four municipal parks (Hampstead, Surrey, Princes and Purley) within Harfield Village.
Founded in 2012 to address the increasing neglect of the parks, the FOHP has been instrumental in working with residents and the council in cleaning up graffiti, replacing old jungle-gym equipment, planting trees, creating and maintaining plant and flower beds in the parks, and otherwise keeping the parks safe, clean and friendly.
The FOHP organises several events throughout the year, including:
Bi-monthly garden parties where we weed, mulch, replant and otherwise maintain the Village’s garden spaces.
The railway cleanup, held on the first Sunday in May.
Participation in the Harfield Village Carnival and the Harfield Christmas Market.
The FOHP’s ability to keep the parks neat and tidy depends on community support. You can get involved through coming along to one of the garden parties and contributing your labour, plants, mulch/compost or grey water; through donating to the FOHP operating funds; or by buying plants at the Carnival and Christmas party.
You can read more about the history of the FOHP and the work done by the committee in our brief overview document. We also communicate through the FOHP Facebook page, a bi-monthly newsletter, and electronic flyers sent out before the garden parties.
