Security Tips
Alarms Systems:
Make sure your alarm is fully functional by testing at least once a month with your armed response making sure all zones and panic are working which we can assist.
Common problems are faulty sensors, wiring or flat alarm battery.
Wireless alarms sensors batteries should be replaced yearly to be safe but has a maximum life of two years although this is risky.
Make sure your alarm monitoring company does monitor for low battery and mains power off. Criminals have been known during holidays to switch off the electricity street box and wait for your alarm LED Status to go off indicating no power in order the break in.
Electric Fencing:
Make sure electric fence and energiser is working by seeing if the Red-Light Indicator is pulsing on and off.
Backup battery should be checked that it is still working.
If electric fence is arcing or making a load cracking sound, this is caused by high voltage wire line shorting on the plastics bobbins which can deteriorate from sun after about 10 years.
Vegetation and branches need to be kept clear from the electric fence wires as this can cause shorting and false alarms.
Gate Motor Security:
Make sure no people are loitering at gate or followed you home and is clear and safe to open.
Wait for gate to close behind you and make sure no one else has slipped in before getting out of locked car.
When coming home and gate will not close, rather leave and call armed response as safety beam could be compromised by someone who has damaged or placed a sticker on the safety beam preventing the gate from closing.
When leaving home make sure gate is closed before leaving as someone can slip in if you leave the gate closing unattended.
If your gates is not running correctly, making a noise or hard to push in manual mode, this is a sign failed wheel bearing or worn track. If gate starts and stops before fully closing or opening can be a sign of this.
When the electricity is off and the gate fails to run properly on battery backup, this is a sign that the batteries need replacing.
Batteries for Backup on Security Equipment:
It is imperative that that all your security equipment batteries are still functioning on backup.
Security equipment backup SLA Lead Acid batteries have an effective life span for alarms up to 5 years and motor automation up to 3 years. These batteries will have a much shorter life caused by frequent load shedding or long periods without charge.
Lithium-Ion batteries come fully guaranteed and can last up to 10 years and will not deteriate due to load shedding.
