SUPPORTING ACHING JOINTS
How Low Level Laser Therapy Can Help Degenerative Joint Disease
Degenerative joint disease (DJD), often referred to as osteoarthritis, is a common condition in our community—especially as we age or after years of physical strain. It occurs when the protective cartilage in our joints gradually wears down, leading to pain, stiffness, reduced mobility and inflammation. While DJD can’t be “cured,” there are effective ways to manage symptoms and support joint health.
One of the tools we use at The Chiropractic Health Centre is Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), also known as cold laser therapy.
LLLT is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate healing at a cellular level. Unlike surgical or pharmaceutical options, it does not generate heat, cause tissue damage or require downtime. Instead, the laser energy helps improve cellular function, increase circulation and reduce inflammation in affected joints.
For patients with degenerative joint disease, this can translate to:
- Reduced joint pain and stiffness
- Improved mobility and function
- Decreased inflammation
- Support for tissue repair and healing
Low level laser therapy is particularly helpful for joints commonly affected by DJD, such as the knees, hips, shoulders, hands, and spine. When combined with chiropractic care—such as gentle joint mobilisation, soft tissue work, and movement-based rehabilitation—it can enhance overall outcomes and help patients stay active for longer.
Many patients appreciate that LLLT is quick, comfortable and suitable for people who may not tolerate medications well or who are looking for conservative, drug-free options.
If joint pain is limiting your daily activities, early intervention can make a meaningful difference. Our team at The Chiropractic Health Centre is always happy to chat about whether low level laser therapy may be appropriate for you and how it fits into a personalised care plan.
