ARO GUTTED IN SECOND MASSIVE ROBBERY

On Sunday the 16th of April 2023, Animal Rescue Organisation (ARO) based in Ottery, Cape Town was targeted in a robbery by an as-of-yet unknown number of criminals. While no staff were present or hurt at the scene of the crime, the Organisation is still reeling from the significant material losses that now hinder the Organisation in protecting and caring for desperate animals in the community. 

The criminals who concealed themselves and their crime by disabling the security and camera systems, seized several critical technological devices used by the Organisation for its day-to-day operations. These include: two laptop computers from our mobile units, two driver’s cell phones, one office desktop and two flat screen displays. Meanwhile, the general reception area and Vet’s office were horrifically ransacked, whilst the office electrical wiring was cut.

This recent break in marks the second occasion in the past three years that ARO has experienced a catastrophic incident debilitating theft. As an Organisation that dedicates ill it’s efforts to the care and rehabilitation of vulnerable animals in poor communities, ARO is once again shocked and saddened by the targeting of its premises and equipment in such brazen acts of wanton theft and vandalism. Unfortunately, these acts have once again forced the Organisation to dramatically scale down its operations, such that fewer sick and injured animals in the community can be consulted moving forward. Our mobile clinics have come to a grinding holt. These fur babies will now suffer in silence!
