Jasantha spent countless hours in her teens avoiding ingredients she was allergic to, then switched to natural. Only to discover that natural skincare still contained ingredients that made her skin react.
She started learning to formulate her own soap and was soon selling Castile Soap made from Pure Extra-Virgin Olive Oil to local Health Shops.
She then wanted to create all the products she used and realised that there were more people out there with the same problem. She decided to learn how to produce safe skincare that also taught her to be compliant with Cosmetic Regulations. Leaving behind her IT Consulting career she went back to study in 2019. Where she joined 11 others to achieve her postgrad as a Cosmetic Formulation Scientist at the University of Cape Town’s Hair and Skin Research Lab.
She won the Testing Category of The Pitch that same year and used the seed money to create Aurora Natural Skincare. Using her experience of Quality Assurance and Testing she spends her time formulating and handcrafting unique formulas for sensitive skin.
Aurora Natural Skincare is currently oil-based products at present and is essential oil free, nut oil free, gluten free, soy free, cornstarch free, bicarb free and Tumeric free. Products are also reformulated for those with latex allergies which sometimes occurs with the use of Shea Butter and Mango Butter.
Each online order receives Herb/Veg seed paper tags made from waste paper Jasantha collects in her area. This is then converted into seed paper by The Growing Paper Company.
She also qualified with her Certificate in Anti-ageing from Formula Botanica in January 2022 and plans to create a high-end spa facial range.
Aurora Natural Skincare won the Beauty Shortlist Mama & Baby Editors Choice Awards on 24 June 2022 for both the Squalane, Rosehip + Coffea Arabica Renewal Serum and Organic Baobab Body Balm.
Consultation is also offered to customers to help them understand more about the ingredients they react to and should eliminate from their skincare routine.
Customers with sensitive skin or allergies are welcome to connect online and join the Aurora Community. Find out how you can join the Focus group and be the first to get your hands on pre-launch products at discounted prices and enjoy many other benefits.
